Early birthday present

Since he doesn't have a handle on the concept of time yet, we thought it would be ok to give him his birthday present early. An Ikea hack I finished last night.

Snip snip

I gave Elliot his first haircut tonight. It took almost 30 minutes of cajoling and Daddy getting a haircut first. The lollipop, in hand, sealed the deal.

Just like a prison shot - much like I imagine school photos will be.

fakers

Doesn't it look like they're both faking it? They must have known it was time to do laundry.

technology

He now holds out his hand and says, "talk, please" whenever certain people are on the phone. He will hold the phone up to somewhere in the vicinity of his ear and talk about whatever it is he sees. He also repeats what the person on the other end is saying as if he is replying in the affirmative ("toys! play! walking tito!"). Sometimes it's hard to get the phone back from him and you wonder if the person on the line has given up yet. So far no one has.

He also has a love of the camera. He holds it up to his eye, takes a picture, and we end up with lots of close ups of his cornea. Or eyebrow. Sometimes he'll turn it around and we end up with these:

The Games

He's been working at jumping for quite a while. On Tuesday our neighbor came over for a bit and Elliot asked to be lifted into his crib (never to sleep, mind you). He does this often and it's usually to snuggle in with his Curious George monkey and tuck himself into the covers. Sometimes he requests a pillow or four. This time, he figured out that he could get some air and spent 15 minutes jumping up and down, squealing like a wild boy. My neighbor, who is going to watch him once in a while while I'm at work, may have been a bit mortified. Her daughter's 8 months and still calm and mostly immobile.

Yesterday we were downstairs after dinner and Elliot started a game of counting down, "one, three, eight, ten...blat off!" he would either flop face-first into the cushion on the ground or 'jump' by pulling his feet out from under him and landing hard on his bottom on the couch. He did this at least a 30 times. Maybe it's the sugar.

music

Elliot used to just ask for music, but he now has a favorite song by The Flight of the Concords he has titled "Ladies." It's the only song he requests by name (it's also the only CD in the car). He requests it often and if he hears it once, he asks for it again as soon as it ends. We're going to have to bring other music he likes to the car.

No evil

We went out for dinner last night and Elliot seemed to be enjoying the steak. We realized he was enjoying it so much he wasn't chewing it at all and instead seemed to be swallowing his tiny bites whole. He also ate an entire serving of broccoli and every olive on the table.
