Line 'em up

He's mastering rolling out the play-doh and puting pepper-o-neys! on his pizzas but he is a cookie cutter prodigy. He stamped out all of those sea horses and turtles then started lining them up. When I asked what the sea horses were doing he said "snuggling." Well, obviously.

It quickly devolved to play-doh up the nose. It was our first official object-in-the-nose extraction. Thank goodness it didn't require more than a q-tip.

Quick trip

Ellensburg court house lawn .

We went to Ellensburg overnight this weekend because we'd never been before. We stayed in a motel where Elliot had a lot of fun playing with the phone and jumping on the beds.

Day care

Elliot just started his fourth week of day care (or school, as he calls it). He still cries every morning when I drop him off and begs, "No school mama. No play kids. No work, Mama." Chad gets to pick him up every day- sometimes Elliot's excited to see him and sometimes he cries. Apparently the hardest parts of the day are drop off and when other kids start to get picked up, before Chad arrives. In the morning he cries for Mama and in the evening for Daddy. They've been good about giving him pictures of us or a stuffed animal to cuddle and it seems to help.

The first few days I dropped him off, I would call when I got to work to see how it was going and he'd always be fine, eating pancakes or playing with other kids.

When he comes home, he talks about specific kids and sometimes throws in a "play kids" or "hug kids." He seems to be having fun overall and he'll soon be going only half time when I reduce my hours back to 20/wk. He didn't cry Tuesday or today when I dropped him off. He also didn't nap Tuesday at all so I'm not sure what's going on there.

Update 30 March: the day after this post, Elliot didn't cry during drop off and hasn't since.

Little things

He has a couple of consistent sayings he uses a lot lately. My favorite is "need hug". It can be in the morning, while reading books at bedtime, while he's running around playing. Sometimes he asks for a big hug and sometimes for a small hug. He almost always says he needs a hug when he wakes up and he snuggles his face into my neck. Heaven.

Elliot also likes to "chase Tito!" but we have told him that this is an outside only activity to reduce the amount of torture for the dog. If Tito doesn't respond by running circles, Elliot will just stand there with his legs leaning against Tito's body as if he can physically will him to be chased.

We were reading a book a few days ago and in one of the pictures, a kid falls, hurts himself and is looking pretty sad. He's got a tear on his cheek and a big pout lip. Elliot pointed at the lip and asked, "what's that?" We talked about pout lips and practiced making them. Now he uses it often but always as a semi-joking sad face. This morning when he woke up, he smiled at me, made a pout lip and snuggled in, then smiled again.

Pi(e)

Last night we went to a Pi day pie party. In attendance was Heather! as she was here on a brief visit. I think Elliot, much like his mom and dad, was impressed that so many varieties of food could be made into pies. It was delicious.
